Alex Ferguson Trusts Manchester United Players To Beat Porto
The Red Devils' supremo has faith in his troops to secure a semi-final berth tomorrow night in Portugal.
Apr 14, 2009 2:34:32 PM
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has highlighted his team's fine record in this season's Champions League, and avowed his faith in his players to become the first English side to beat Porto on Portuguese soil and so progress to the semi-finals of the continent's premier club competition again.
United face Porto tomorrow night in the second leg of their quarter-final tie, with the encounter poised at 2-2, giving the Portuguese outfit an advantage on away goals. Ferguson feels that his players are just the men to turn that advantage around though, and score the goals necessary to see them through.
However, he does feel that Porto currently hold a clear "edge" in the tie.
"So far we're undefeated in it this season," the Scotsman said of his team's current Champions League campaign.
"We have to take great credit for that, and the players in particular. They have performed.
"The one area which we are disappointed in was losing the last minute goal in the last game, and that has put a definite edge towards Porto for the advantage.
"It's still a big job to do."
Despite the size of the task confronting them though, Ferguson concluded by asserting his faith in the players at his disposal.
He said, "I'm going to trust these players of mine because they deserve that trust."
