Giggs set to reach 800

24/04/2009 08:40, Report by Gemma Thompson
Michael Carrick has hailed the extraordinary achievements of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, insisting they are an inspiration to everyone at Old Trafford.

Scholes racked up his 600th appearance against Portsmouth, while Giggs will play his 800th game if selected for Saturday's Spurs clash.

With nearly 1400 United matches between them, the veteran duo know exactly what's required to win titles and both played an important part in the Reds' return to the league su mmit on Wednesday, each setting up a goal in the 2-0 victory over Pompey.

Giggs laid on the opener for Wayne Rooney after nine minutes, while it was Scholes who threaded the defence-splitting pass into Carrick's p ath to secure a vital three points.

"What's left to say about them?" Carrick told MUTV. "They're just unbelievable professionals with fantastic talent and ability who are great people to learn from and the perfect example of what it is to be a winner at this club.

"They're an inspiration to us all. To keep producing over such a long period at the highest level is frightening. Not many people can do that and it speaks volumes for the kind of players and people they are."
