Sir Alex: Manchester United Made It Hard For Themselves

After a game that looked open for the taking for a long periods, Manchester United would emerge the eventual victors. But Sir Alex Ferguson himself conceded that his team did not play as productively as they should have.

"We made it hard for ourselves. The first half performance was fantastic, and we should have been 5 or 6 goals ahead," he told Sky Sports.

"But, we missed a lot of good chances, and you don't want to encourage your opponents in that situation, and that's what we did.

"They got to the byline twice in the second half, and that's when you start saying to yourself: we're throwing this away here.

"Fortunately, Michael Carrick came up with the answer by scoring the second goal, and that settled everyone down."

Looking towards the remaining games of the season, the Red Devils boss professed that, at this point, it will not be an easy road to another Premier League victory.

"We're in a better position tonight than we were on Monday, but there's still a long way to go," continued the gaffer.

"Six games seems like a short time, but it could be a long time. We'll have to deal with it the right way.

"The players had a little scare today. If you don't take your chances you can harm yourself.

"So hopefully that message gets through."
